1. FIRST STEPS TO STUDIES

▶ Announcement of Student ID Number, APU Account (ID), Password: September 12

  • Information regarding your student ID and APU account (ID and password) will be sent to you by email around September 12.
  • You will need to login to your APU account to be able to join the Zoom orientation sessions and view the orientation documents. Please be sure to attend the Information System Guidance on September 20 for more detailed information.
  • You can access Campus Terminal from 21st September.

  • If you have any questions, please join the Information System Orientation on 20th September.
  • Orientation sessions will be conducted face to face and via Zoom. Please read the manual at the link below in order to familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom before orientation begins.

  • It will be possible to view guidance materials from the "Details" link under each guidance session beginning from September 14. Please note that there are cases where the guidance materials will not be accessible until after the guidance has ended.
  • Students unable to enter Japan by the orientation period should refer to “4.Q&A.”

▶ Check your APU Student ID Number | How to Check
Your APU student ID number is an 8-digit number you will be asked to enter on various occasions such as examination answer sheets, application forms, reports, etc. to confirm your identity. Please make sure to check that information and take note of it.
Your student ID number is listed on the APU Application Final Results Confirmation Page.

Information about your APU-Net User Account is listed on the APU Application Final Results Confirmation Page. The University uses your APU email address to contact students, so please make sure that you activate them immediately after receiving the details.

▶ Prepare for the Academic Writing Training | Details
Attending the Academic Writing Training before beginning your studies is mandatory. The training aims to enhance your academic writing skills and provide knowledge and techniques necessary for completing a large research project (e.g. a thesis, dissertation, report, or case study). There are preliminary readings and assignments for this training, so please make sure that you access the relevant materials from the link above.

2. EVENTS REQUIRING ATTENDANCE

Attendance is required for the following events, so be sure to include them in your schedule! You can access the details of every event by clicking “Details”. Click “Join the Event” 5-10 minutes before the live stream session starts.

Sep. 16 (Fri.) JST

▶ 8:30-17:30 Receive Student ID Card, Address Registration & Bank Account Opening / Mandatory/ AP House 2
International students who move in to the dormitory will have a guidance on September 16 where they will register their address, open a bank account, and receive their student ID card after antigen testing.
Further details concerning these procedures will be sent to your APU email address after you arrive in Japan. Check your email frequently, read emails from the University carefully, and follow the instructions. Please be aware that it takes a minimum of 5 weeks to be able to use your bank account once you apply to open one after arriving in Japan.
* The same guidance will be held on September 30 for international students who did not move in to the dormitory on September 16.
* Students who do not live in the AP House will receive a student ID card at the Student Office during opening hours from Tuesday, September 20 to Thursday, September 22.

▶ All Day Antigen Testing for AP House Residents / Mandatory
Covid-19 antigen tests will be administered to students residing in AP House (including short-term exchange students). You will receive further information about how the test will be administered and your test time after you move in. The test will take about an hour per person.

Checking the latest health condition. All the new students need to be examined.
Be sure to watch the video by the day before your health checkup at the very latest.
Please fill out the APU Student Health Exam Interview Card and bring it with you on the day of the health checkup. APU Student Health Exam Interview Card (The Health Exam Interview Card will be distributed at the “Important Information from the University” session.)

4. Q&A

Q. It doesn’t look like I will be able to be in Beppu by the time orientation begins and will not be able to attend the on-campus orientation sessions in person. What should I do?
A. New students are required to attend the orientation sessions. The university has sent an email to students who will most likely not be in Beppu by the orientation period that contains information on how to take the placement test online as well as information about participating in orientation sessions. Click here for instructions on how to participate in orientation sessions.
Q. I haven't received the announcement with my placement test information and APU-Net user account information. What should I do?
A. Please confirm the information on the APU Application Final Results Confirmation Page and contact the Academic Office academi1@apu.ac.jp) if you have not received this information.
Q. I want to speak with someone about my classes. What should I do?
A. Please attend the session about completion requirements for your program for details
Q. I want to set up my VPN so I can access the APU Library database off-campus. Where can I find the instructions?
A. Please check the information on the Academic Office website for details here.
Q. I want to use the library, but don't have my student ID yet.
A. Inform library counter staff that you haven't received your student ID yet. You will need to show something that identifies you as an APU student (email sent to your APU account, etc.) in place of your ID.
